Sorry to hear one of your motors went south. For my $.02, I'd take a look at the re-man cummins. They have factory backed rebuilds and for the 250hp should be some where around $10k?
Also, being a 31, you have the option of the 4cyl yanmar or cummins without any performance sacrifice. If you can do it without changing gear, you'd better go for it. After all there's no real value in a gas boat these days.

The annapolis show is coming up in a couple of weeks, may be able to work out some special pricing? It worked for me on some electronics last year.

One more thought, if you want new gas (for what ever reason) check out www.sterndriveinc.com. I found them when looking for prices for new power of my B20. Seem to have pretty good prices.
