I agree the pulpit and bowrail take away from the timeless classic lines. Unfortunately on the West Coast / So. California if you want to fish anchoring out on the Chanal Islands (i.e.) Catalina, San Clemente Island, Santa Barbara Isle, etc. etc. anchoring is a necessary evil. It's not uncommon to anchor in 80 - 100 feet of water which makes a scope of 7:1 or anything remotely close to it not very practical. Fortunately our 31 is fairly light 13K lbs and not very much windage. We use 30 lb. plow with 100 feet of 5/16 chain and 200 feet of Nylon rode. This would be impossible without a windlass and pulpit is a great place for that anchor.
