A few corrections

I need to correct a few things about new/old engine designs.
Electronic controls have been on the market for a while.
They eliminate the cable from the control head to the transfer box using only wire.
The transfer box contains electric servos that in turn use a short cable to control engine functions. The early units were trouble some.
Then you have electronic controls that have the servos attached direct to the gear and or injector pump, eliminating all cables.
Same type of control heads.
The above two are adaptable to mechanical systems and sometimes employ extra sensors to monitor other devices.
They can also be ordered direct from the factory.
Next we have the common rail engines.
In this system the feed lines to the injectors are kept under pressure. The injectors are either fired electricaly or by use of a rocker arm instead of a seperate injector pump applying pressure to the intended injector thus firing it.
There are other sensors that can affect fuel delivery. Most went with this system to meet tier two emission standards on some engine models.
Also because of this upgrade, makers decided to also incorporate "electronic" screens rather than individual instruments. Some have their own screens, some use the new protocol that will allow multifunction units such as GPS to display engine and control functions.
Most are using standard wiring practices.
Next you have the "fly by wire" that eliminates the need for individual wires and incorporates all signals on one wire. Volvo is the only one I know of using this now.
The new Cummins QSB series I am installing use standard multi wire harnasses to a display screen. It will use Glendinning electric controls. The HP fuel pump already has the servo built in the governor and the standard ZF gear will get a seperate mountable servo to operate the gear.
The Volvo's I will be using on the next repower will have the single wire system.
The 6LP is still the same old engine, not a common rail. Its 24 valve train meets the emissions. The Teleflex electronic controls can be adapted to the 6LP either from the factory or as an after thought along with other engines.
Yanmars only true electronic engine is the six cylinder LY3-ETP non common rail. It uses hydraulic injection timing and an electronic governor and puts out 480hp.
The Teleflex controls are just an electronic adaption.
