While still classified as a tropical storm at this posting, Rita will become a hurricane by later today. There has also been a slight shift to the north which brings Rita closer to the Keys.

Hurricane warnings have been issued from Key West through Miami & Rita is expected to reach Cat2 by late tonight. The keys are under mandatory evacuation orders...

This will be a fairly fast moving system and once into the Gulf it is expected to become a major hurricane. Residents along the Gulf Coast from northern Mexico to southern Louisiana should monitor this storm closely & make all necessary preparations.
