I was at the AC show on Friday and got to see about a 10 minute dvd video of the 36 Open and Express. It was showing on the plasma TV on the 63 Bert. The guys from Marine Max said the boat was on it's way up and was currently in Titusville. It will be at the FLL show for sure.
It really looks like a beautiful boat, but I'm not sure for what purpose. As a pure fishing machine I don't think it is as good as say a 36 Jersey Cape but compared to the other factory boats out there it sure looked sweet. The lines are very modern, on both the open and express. I don't care for the to starboard helm but that's me.
Spoke to a Bertram higher up and there is a plan to bring a 31 Bertram to life but not the 31 that we all are use to...it'll be a scaled down version of the 36' new boat. He did say there are some very heated debates going on inhouse about doing a classic 31 but making it better. He used the analogy of the classic VW Beetle to the modern version. Also, he was saying that there is serious consideration to making the boat about 10% bigger, so a 33' boat. Keeping the same lines, making more room on the bridge, etc. Also stated that Bertram doesn't have room on the line right now for the classic 31/33 cause the 31 express will be first.
Still not sure if I like idea. I will say the 36 looked beautiful on TV, very modern looking and it was great to see the Bertram emblem on something smaller than a 1 million dollar boat.
Looking forward to FLL.
