Musta missed your post.
No double pulleys.
You have to use the Yanmar metric belts. After market belts do not have the same v groove angle and will chew.

If your using factory belts, some slight belt dust is normal. Breaking belts is not.

To tight an adjustment can cause a problem.

Check alignment between all pulleys. They must line up.
Check for rust on the pulleys.
Make sure the altenator and mount has no play or wobble.

I thought Cummins had it together with the flat belt until I got the new QSB's in.
The water pump is v belt driven.
