We use a Nautamatic on our 24 footer, the unit has alot of things going for it, easy to install (no rudder feed back) compact installation, and "dead balls" accurate course keeping on both nav and auto. I've also installed this same pilot on a go fast Rambo 27 and it it performs flawlessly. Both of these installations were with Hynautic/Sea Star heads.
Our 31 FBC has an older 3500 (similar to the AP-16)the Simrad stuff takes a bit more time to dial in and can get a little finiky during set up, but remains a very solid and dependable unit. Since it has a rudder feedback (only now is Simrad doing a virtual feedback like nautamatic) you will have to get familiar with your bilge.
Both of these units work well with Furuno, Garmin and Northstar units, we don't use much Raymarine up here so I don't have any info for you.
The bottom line on pilots is you get what you pay for, if you are not sure how to T into your steering lines hire some one who can. Keep the compass away from any electrical interference and mount it as low in the boat as you can (without getting it wet). Set it up as per the book and cross your fingers.
Good luck whatever direction you go, hope this helps a little.JP
