Took Care of about 20 displaced Americans today. Not looters, thugs, or the general scum the media has portrayed over the last few days. Rather, these were humble, appreciative people who accept charity with a heavy heart knowing they currently have nothing else. Some were talking of taking government jobs but not in Houston, Dallas or even Longview- but rasher trying to help clean up their home town.
One couple's car got flooded tryng to get out and just got rescued yesterday from a bank building where they took shelter for 5 days. They were taken to an I-10 bridge last night and got on a school bus for Texas this am. I saw them here for some pregnancy related problems. Did I mention she was pregnant? All she could say she was how lucky she was because they had packed some water for their evacuation. They felt no sense of entitlement but again were truly appreciative that people would take time to help them. And hell, I was at work! Not to mention all of the volunteers around.
The last few days have been an eye opener for me. Everyone enjoy the day.
