Very well said !The finger pointing (and press conference) effort by some of the politicians exceeds their work on rescue & relief.
IMHO the president/governors should have put the military in charge day one (no bullshit get the job done guy like the Lt. General Honore). I think this is one of the reasons the Tsunami relief worked efficiently.
I suspect that there are many other infrastructure problems in the USA – the senate and house are only funding short term pork barrel projects that buy votes (even in their own states). Anything which take longer than an election cycle – does not get funded.
Take a look at the barriers in the Netherlands…and you see what could be done in New Orleans and other areas. Many of their projects were decade(s) long from engineering to completion.
One question, what responsibilities does New York City Planners have (did they have some national level planning responsibility due to 911) ?
