UV:
Glad to hear your power is back -- it is amazing given how close you are to what can only be described as total devastation.
I know everyone else here probably feels the same thing --- we are more than boaters -- this is one big family here! I am in awe of the communication that we have on this board -- I have been reading the posts and then filling in friends on what is going on, with much more accuracy and more timely than any of the television networks.
One thing that this situation has shown me, and UV is a great example, don't be complacent, be prepared for anything.
I have an 8kw Kohler generator which puts out enough juice to run most of my house -- at least the important stuff, I can do without the dryer -- and thank God I have natural gas heat, but without the generator it wouldn't run as its fan is electric. Well, I thought I was smart -- in addition to the standard 6 gallon fuel tank, I bought another backup 6 gallon fuel tank. Well, I decided yesterday, based on UV's commments about him having power, I added to the fuel capacity with a big Tempo fuel tank that comes to an addional 18 gallons, and I bought a pump to siphon gas out of one of the vehicles if need be.
I'm going to go through and check out the dry goods in the basement and make sure I have food, etc. to get by on too.
Hurricanes come to New England too, and advance preparation can't hurt.
Oh yeah, seeing as how we all have other hobbies in common -- home defense devices are properly secured with a good supply of projectiles.
Not paranoid, just shocked by the devestation and the outright appearance of a war zone!
