I'm only about 5'6", so I put mahogany (about 1 1/2" thick) spacers, and then added 1/2" starboard. That's about as far up as the seat could go off the stainless "L" brackets without it looking like you could slide off the side and out the boat if the stainless rail (and on my boat, the radar arch) weren't there. I still sit on a cushion.

I'd also like to sit closer to the wheel--move the seat in--but not have it hit me in the back of the legs when I'm standing--move the seat out... If you figure out a solution, let us know.
