Thanks for the update!
I feel that the news is going to get gloomier as time passes. There are still two breaches in levees and water is still flowing unchecked into the city. Flooding has gotten worse & with no real end in sight.
Reports indicate that "the powers that be" are going to call for a complete evacuation of the city.
While at first it seemed that the whole area had been somewhat spared by the weakening of Katrina just before landfall and the easterly jog to the right of the city. But things are shaping up to become "The devastation in biblical proportions" that were earlier feared.
Looting and shootings are steadily increasing & I expect the city to go under Martial Law within the next day or two...
When Bruce & I returned from our "out west ride", DOT was still working on the eastbound side of the Pensacola I-10 causeway. Numerous sections of the bridge were still just temporary spans. That was from Ivan a year ago. What Ivan did to P'cola was a swat on the wrist compared to what Katrina did to New Orleans.
70% of the city is below sea level, and some estimates are that as much as 80% of the city is now flooded.
I find it totally mind boggling to even try and comprehend what or how long it'll take for N.O. to stagger back to it's feet.
And then there's Mississippi, which didn't fare any better...
