B28 Helm Bench

First of all, best wishes to those in the path of Katrina.

I like having a bench seat, it allows me to fit all three of my girls up top with me. The bad points are well documented.

1) When standing the front of the seat presses uncomfortably against the back of your calves.

2) When seated you are in a low set-back position limiting visibility and breeze. I sit on a throw cushion but would still like to be higher. It would nice to be a little farther forward but that would make #1 (above) even worse.

I'm guessing I'm not the first guy to address this problem. I have a decent cushion/canvas guy who could probably repad and recover my seat & back given the proper direction. Or is there a "drop in" bench that adresses these issues? I've also thought of shimming the seat from below.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.
