Something fun in the middle of tough times

The offshore trip was fun. I have never seen so many boats out there at all. The radar looked like Great Salt pond on Block Island! One guy radioed to a friend on his way out that he hoped that he had brought boat fenders. An accurate statement.
I think the 78 degree water confused the fish a bit perhaps, plus all those boats could not have helped, so we pitched 3 flats of butterfish over the side over night to no avail. It did not bode well for our success. It was slow fishing, for everyone it seemed.
We had a double knockdown and boated both albacore on the troll just east of the dip in the cold water (73) at about 8:30. We started trolling at 5:30. At 10:30ish we hooked up with a white marlin (awesome! my first!!! on my boat that is!!!) and lost it after the backlash of the line breaking free of a wave caused a tip wrap. Bummer. But an amazing site.
Otherwise a few mahi off of pots on the way home. It was a great day. The boat ran well, though I did change my fuel filters when I got home. 150 hours seemed like it would be a good time to do that... I felt bad for the guy who's battery died in the 26 foot grady with a single engine... sometimes I wonder...
And to top it off, I just made reservations at the Ocean Holiday hotel in Lauderdale for the show!!!!! So despite all the misery and tough times happening, there is something to look forward to.
Liz and I are looking forward to seeing all at the Lauderdale show. It will be her first big boat show. She has been to NYC show, and to Newport, but this is a whole other league...
I hope everyone down south is doing ok. We have been thinking of you a lot. Please let me know if I can help in any way, and it will be done if I can.
Best,
Dug
