Talked to UV... *PIC*

I talked with Uncle Vic earlier this afternoon and he asked me to pass along that he's fine, as are all family members...

He said that Baton Rouge was pretty frayed around the edges, but mostly tree and roof damage. All of the city is without power & most probably won't get power restored for as much as 2 weeks.

Word from New Orleans is still sketchy at best, but they certainly got their teeth kicked in. At least one of the levees got over run on the east side of the Commercial Canal, (the area opposite from where "Another Joy" is on the hard), totally flooding that section of town. No word yet on "Another Joy"

At the moment, the best source of current info is coming from the WWLTV website in New Orleans...

A lot of downtown N.O. is flooded, but it sounds like it was far better than the "biblical catastrophe" that it could have been. It was worse than what Ivan did to Pensacola last year though, and Katrina, (still a Cat1 at the time of this posting), will most probably replace Camille in terms of cost and suffering.

As for Wayne & crew at P.E., it's anybody's guess at this time. P.E. was on the east side of the eye wall only by a few miles & when the storm was still a strong Cat4. Short of the lighthouse, I don't think there's a structure there could withstand that kind of force.

By the speed of the forward track this morning, Port Eads would have been under the gun of sustained winds over 130mph for at least 2 hours and that's after weathering hurricane force winds for a couple of hours before... I'm afraid there's very little left of P.E.

But, tough old coonasses are hard to kill, so let's hope that Wayne & crew managed to get up into the lighthouse and are waiting for the next crew boat to rescue 'em.

Vic, did mention that he'd have some bad news about one of our favorite UVI coonass buddies to relay at a later date, (not hurricane related). Let's leave that topic alone though and not discuss it here on the board until Vic decides the time is right. Also, please don't email or call me about it, 'cause I've already said too much.

Also I've heard no word about our friends to the east of N.O. Capt Gayle Culp of Gulf Port, MS which got slammed as bad as Louisana, and the P'Cola Boys who even felt hurricane strength winds... Let us know if you're OK guys.

Br,

Patrick

BTW: That I-10 sign is near downtown N.O. & about 8' high...
