The best way to avoid fish poisoning is to keep a 5 gallon bucket half full of Cholorox water. Mix 1 pint of bleach to 2 1/2 gallons of water, either salt or fresh, and keep your gloves in the bucket. Every time you put on the wet gloves you're disinfecting your hands...
If you get finned, force the wound to bleed and wash the wound area with the bleach solution, then hydrogen proxide. Everyone "should", (few rarely do), have an annual tetnus shot...
