I know very well how nasty Buzzards Bay can be; I live in Marion, which is only a few miles south of the canal and own a house on the vineyard. I make the journey 20 to 30 times a year. However it is "only" 10-12 nm from the canal to Woods Hole. This can be a very unpleasant trip, but the good news is that if it is rough and SW in the bay, the 7 nm from Woods Hole to OB will always be calm. And the opposite is true about NE winds. I fully understand your dislike of BB. It’s not the wave height, it’s how close together they are; almost vertical wave faces.
All that said, I think everyone would really enjoy MV and the point of having the get together farther north was to get more people to show up (like you and Timmy). Block Island was a lot of fun, but not many boats. Almost none of the crowd from LI showed up and it’s only a 30 nm run for them in what was very easy conditions. I believe that most decided not to go because the Atlantic City get together. I would go to Plymouth or any other place on the other side of the canal, but the fun of OB cannot be overlooked. Everything is walking/stumbling distance away. The only real problem with OB is that reservations are VERY hard to get and MUST be made in January. Any later than that and the get together would have to be in September or held on moorings.
As I said if people want it on the Vineyard (and yes Timmy the Tubb has made it there before, with a little help) I would be glad to help, we just need to make a decision soon.
