Ron,
I don't know how old you are, your marital stsaus, kids, etc., but it comes down to this..........
I've transited BB over a couple of dozen times in the last 10 years. Every single time, except for 2002 Block Island deal, the passage has been in sustained SW winds of 18 knts or higher with rain fog or both. It just is'nt SOMETHING I WANT TO DO ANYMORE. The first dozen times went through there, I was like you .......... Bertram weather, no problem, as our little 31 passed lots of larger vessels and left them in our wake.
with each journey "Bertram Weather" gets less and less attractive, sure the boat can make it....BUT CAN THE PEOPLE? My wife says "if you want to go through BB, you go alone, I AM DONE WITH THAT CRAP, we have been in truly frightening seas and know we can make through, but why should we volunteer?.
We've been to Oak Bluffs many times and had a ball there. It is a great location and if the forecast is right we will probably come.
It just sucks after already running 75 nm across ipswich bay, mass bay and cape cod bay with the sun shining, a nice 1-3 foot swell, running at 21 knts, only to enter BB facing overcast/fog/15+sw winds and 5-8 ft waves, bring speed down to 16knts and slog out 15nm to woods hole, 50 nm to newport or *gasp* 60-75 nm to Block or Montauk.
