In a strickly mechanical transmission I could see a benefit.
Also gear boxes that use no coolers, very few, could benefit from the higher temp ratings of synthetics.

I have seen no data that using it in a hydraulic transmission increases usable life. So why bother with the extra expense.
You don't have the stresses of the rotational forces that are on the pistons, rods, bearings, crank journals and brgs plus the corrosion content of combustables.

Most, not all, but most gear box failures I've seen have been due to someone abusing the crap outta a gear box.

Until they make a "STUPIDITY" additive for oil, stick with the mineral based stuff.

On your second question about Algae X, I hereby plead the 5th.
Won't touch this one.
