new tranny making noise

Picked up a buddy's 31 last weekend first trip on brand new yanmars (315s I think) At low rpms port tranny sounds like something's clunking around. pick it up a little and it clears up. Starboard tranny no problem. Dealer said thats typical on the port tranny. Any ideas on this? Thanks
