Sean,
Never heard of shutting off the air but shutting off the fuel yes that is the way it's done. It maybe an option but sounds like a Euro way of doing it. Solonoid failure can happen in a variety of ways. Open coil -not working at all, sticking and then all of a sudden engage after several seconds (which seems like an eternity), or slugish operation from a dirty or corroded plunger or weak coil from age (burning up)or even a simple case of a poor connection to the coil but this is not too common.Solonoids will always go bad as they are electro mechanical. Diesel runs on two things fuel and air. Disconnect either one and they will not run. Dave K
