I hear what you're saying but I live in Seattle and those guys are in New York. Plus, I tried to call them and didn't get an answer. Furthermore, I can't access the Rotary Marine website (www.rotarymarine.com or www.rotarymarinepower.com). Makes it kind of difficult to get excited about something when no one is responding to an inquiry.
Anyway, I have a perfectly good 32 gallon fuel tank and am wondering how much range I will sacrifice by putting a bigger engine in there. Plus, I could see the price of marine gas going to $4 next summer. Fuel efficiency over performance begins to get some consideration.
My use might differ from yours. I plan to keep the boat on a freshwater lake for 4 months and then dry store it on a trailer for the remainder of the year. I will pull the kids around on a wakeboard or intertube and perhaps waterski a handful of times a summer. I'll probably put 50 hours on the engine a season.
Ideally, I wish Mercruiser made an inline 4 cylinder engine with EFI. That might produce 170 HP which is what I'm really after.
Speaking of the Mercruiser 3.0L inline 4, what is the difference between the 2.0 and 2.4 gear ratio on the Alphadrive? Supposidly, the 2.4 is for high altitude (over 5,000 feet) while the 2.0 is for everything below. What do these numbers mean and what would happen of you ran a high altitude gear ratio at sea level? Also, I understand that you can put a duoprop on the 2.0 but not the 2.4. What is that all about?
Thanks in advance. Pete.
