Ethynol effect on gas tank

I have a 1975 31 with, naturally, a fiberglass gas tank. The boat has gas engines. I have been told that the ethynol in the gas is melting the fiberglass in the gas tank and that if I am to prevent fouling up the engines I had better remove the fibergtlass gas tank and replace it with a metal one. Is this a known issue with fiberglass gas tanks from 1975 or thereabouts?
