I work at Onset Bay Marina and Yacht Sales and Awlgrip has been sprayed here for over twenty years. In addition to boats we also do extensive amount of paint work for underwater reserch companies on there rovers.
Over the years the Awlgrip makeup has changed for easier touching up a for the enviorment. It has the best and longest lasting shine partly due to it has the best UV filtering factors. And maintance is mininmal, my 25B is gripped and I rinse evertime I use the boat but only use soap once a month. Because paint is non-porous unlike gelcoat, waxing is half the time of gelcoat and once a year is plenty and if you miss a year it's ok.
We can touch up paint faster than gelcoat and awlgrip repairs don't change color six months down the road like most gelcoats.
However, I believe it was Patrick who said you need to know what your doing with Awlgrip and he's very right, very toxic and very unforgiving when spraying, runs and sags come real easy. It takes real talent to spray Awlgrip and thats why they make the Imrons and Awlcrafts etc. We hire a new painter or painter to be and its like a good sports coach watching the new players you know in short time if that person got it or not.
Paints the way to go.Keep Smilin
