That is exactly what happened to my orginaly deck before I began to discover more soft spots. The old plywood/nautelex combo just doesn't hold up over the long haul. I replaced the large center hatch with marine grade ply as a "end of season" fix last year. I found more soft spots later and ended up going with a glastek replacement deck. The new glasteks apparently do not have a wood core. Never have to worry about it again.

Something to consider and definitely worth the money if you plan to keep the boat.
