Fuel Lines

I want to install fuel pressure regulators on my 454 crusaders. If I plumb them with braided stainless steel from the fuel pump to the reg to the carb, would that be in compliance with Coast Guard regs? I know it would look nice, and I have a bunch of the stuff with fittings.

The reason for the regs is that I installed new fuel pumps (old ones were worn and engines would not turn up abouve 2800rpm) and my fuel consumption is now 22-24 gph on 454 crusaders @3100 rpm. Used to be 15-16. Replacement pumps are stated for carb or FI. I got Rochester carbs and want to make sure fuel pressure is 5-6lbs.

Any thoughts?
