Captdana and Paul,
You are doing the right thing by removing that wall carpet, because it has outlived it's service life (and become a mold culture). The respirater is cheap insurance against a bad infection that one of our guys here on the Board developed. The first thing I did was saturate the material with 50/50 clorox and water be spraying with a small garden style pump sprayer. This kept the airbourne particles to a minimum and neutralized some of the mold. Next I simply went Rambo on it, ripping, scraping and grinding it off. I used vise-grip pliers to grip whatever corner of material I could find, and yanked away. I used a stiff putty knife to raise some edges to grip, and used a grinder to attack the real thick gobs of adhesive. Dirty, hot and sweatty job, but the end result will be worth it. Hopefully someone else will come up with a "brains over brawn" approach that will be easier for you.
Tommy
