V berth material removal-HELP!!

Well guys--I find some nice replacement material for my v berth walls in my 28 and decide that the 33 yr old fuzzy material must get replaced. I 've read earlier posts--so I put the mask on to keep from getting tangled up with bad mold. It starts ok at the top--but as I work down--the boys at the factory were very very liberal in the adhesive--some kinda dark brown looking stuff--needless to say--the going gets slow--sweat is a pumping---any advice on this--I am thinking I opened a huge can of worms--I guess I could have covered over it--but I really want the old smell outta there. ANy advice guys---heating? some kind of adhesive remover??
