The boat count was 38 at the docks. Frank Roepcke drove from NC, Richard Kidd of Allied Richard Bertram stopped by to say hello. Some guys had their boats break and still drove in. David Dall from CT and Sean Manni. Many others also arrived by car, thanks for your efforts. Doc is on the mends and will not miss next year. I know we all missed him and his beautiful wife Nancy. I believe Doug Crowthers of CrowsNest came the farthest; but Mike O. and Predator were only a few miles short. Priceless won the Fishing Contest with three Bluefins, two released. We had 3 20 foot Bertrams and a 60B. Two 25B's, a father and son team, the Dent's, had two of the most beautiful 25B's any of us has ever seen. George Dent's son in law has or should say had a beautiful 20B Jabba Jaws. One of the attending Faithful purchased the boat. Greg said he needs a 25B like his Father and Brother in laws.
Tom Ward and Steve Jany had their freshly repowered Bertrams in the show. The folks at Holts Boat works did a beatuiful job. Joe lost his mother last week; but still stopped by on Friday to say hello. The funeral was Saturday. Joe, we all express our deepest regrets and thank you for your support. Tom Ward is responsible for the website. After last year Tom asked me how he could help. All I said was it would be nice to have a website. Tom said “DONE” and it was. The site really helped me keep things straight. Keep watching www.bertramrendezvous.com for the photos of the event. Thanks, Tom. I met almost all of you because of the web. Two years ago I wanted to go to the Montalk Rendezvous. A fellow named Frank Fimmano said he would like to go along. Frank is now one of my best friends. Frank has helped with planning and advice for our Mid-Atlantic Rendezvous. Thanks Frank. VEI had their trailer of marine electronics. John Spencer, the best Marine Surveyor I have ever met stopped by to say hi. If you need money to buy that new, old Bertram call Phil Swaun at Swaun Funding. Down Jersey Marine and Yanmar gave their support. I understand Tim at Down Jersey Marine really knows his stuff. That comes from Jimmy G. of Fighting Angel, and we know Jimmy knows his stuff. Quota, a 28B won (my) Bogan Custom Rod. If you need great rods give Kevin Bogan a call. Greg of BlueWater Lures came down to say hello. Thanks for the lures for the raffle. My neighbor and great friend Pauly, owner of Garden State Canvas, donated lure bags to go with Greg's lure creations. Cummins gave us their support. Wes of Cummins, who has a Cummins repowered 35B, will be there next year with his boat. Jerry Gomber of Bimini Bay Outfitters was there Sunday to see some of us off. Jerry had business to attend to or he would have been there all weekend. Fred Haas of Tackle Direct not only donated a very nice (expensive) Penn Rod, but a Custom Penn Jacket. Fred also handles the T-Shirt production and sales. Need tackle or some Rendezvous Shirts call Fred. Danny at HighTide Marine also donated some of his custom items. In fact I have a big crate on my back porch with a 28B windshield from Danny. No it is not for me; but a very good friend who has a 28B. Algae-X donated a complete set for a boat, engines and genny won by John F. Doug of Crowsnest won a Longenberger gift basket, donated by my daughter, and Rendezvous Assistant. Well Doug traded John even up. Those guys are best friends and John has been coming with Doug to the Rendezvous. John owns a gas 31B and it seemed fitting to him to trade with Doug. What a bunch of friends. Walter sent Bertram license frames. Please give our sponsors the first chance at your business. They are part of the “Faithful”. All you have to do is “click” on their logo and you will be directed to their site. If they don’t have a site just call the phone number. Please!
Once again Dee James and her fine staff at the Marina handled ever request. The Dock Boys and Girls really worked their butts off in very hot weather. Dee thanks for the totally unexpected private reception for the group at sign-in. WOW. Eva Campbell and the Banquet folks handled the Pig Roast Dinner with impeccable style. Eva is a joy to work with; and those Lobsters were outstanding. Eva, where did that Prime Rib come from my wife wants to know?
Marine Max brought their boats and gave rides all day Staurday and a fabulous DockTail Martini Party Friday night. Doc we missed you. Judith, at Marine Max took care of all the details and made my life much easier. Thanks, Judith. We were happy to see Joe G. of Marine Max didn't let a little surgery keep him from the Party. Paul McIsaac of Marine Max has promised even a bigger party next year. Karla Rodriquez, ”Ms. Bertram”, had the 57 Bertram Factory Fishing Boat here. I understand Karla is the “Cleopatra” of Bertram. My wife was wondering why I spend so much time talking to Karla. Well now she knows. Karla is a great Ambassador for Bertram. I also understand Karla gives the best Golf Cart Tours of the Bertram plant. Sorry Don I will get my tour with Karla. To the whole staff at Marine Max and Team Bertram we want to express our sincerest thanks for a great weekend.
There are Bertram owners that I have spoken with or corresponded by email who were just not interested in attending. I am not talking about folks that live in NY or MD or Florida or the Left Coast. Or owners that had business or family commitments. I am talking about local folks who just don’t understand what “this” group of owners is all about. It seems they are too wrapped up in themselves. I really feel sorry for them and what they miss living outside “this” group of owners and friends. I can travel to every state that has a coastline and few that don’t and find my Bertram friend’s open hospitality. This weekend we added a few more to the family of the “Faithful”. Thanks to all of you who took time to visit with old friends and make new ones. Thanks to all you wives and girlfriends who support and participate in the activities. Folks ask why I want to do this. You are my friends and I would do anything for a friend. I know each of you would do the same. To Captain Patrick, in UV's words, “thanks for sand box”. You brought us all together.
