Yeah....AC was great. The fellowship combined with the great weather and Charlie's perfect logistics to give us all one terrific Rendezvous. This site has really given us all some gifts, and the most important of those are the friendships we've made. Amazing, when one considers that most of us only see each other once or twice a year, if that. Dick Dean summed it up nicely as we were standing and talking at the Marine Max party Friday night....he said "Frank, I feel as if I know you so well, and we're picking up right where we left off in Newport last year" (the last time we saw each other). That's the result of our common bond in these old boats (or was it the Gimlets, Dick!!??!!)
One of the greatest bits of good fortune I have had, however....in any of life's venues.....is to have gained the friendship of Charlie Haws. I cannot begin to tell you how much he has helped me in my passage from wanna-be to Bertram owner, and so much more. Thank you, Charlie.
What I can tell you is that I saw Charlie's efforts on behalf of our Rendezvous up close over the past 7-8 months, and we all owe him a great debt of gratitude. In large Corporate life, there are teams of people in "Conference Planning" departments doing what Charlie did alone over the past few months. Pursuing sponsors, dealing with the hotel and the marina (two separate groups), maintaining records, negotiating menus/slips/rooms, printing name tags, etc., etc. It was a lot of work with more than a few frustrating moments so, once again, Thank You, Charlie. (and thanks to Tom Ward for the Rendezvous website).
To new friends and old friends....looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
Frank
