A couple of months back I got a call from a charter capt that had a problem with one of his diesels and could I help.
After dodging my inquiry as to the make of the engines he finaly said Peninsular.
To which I replied, thanks but no thanks. Not interested at all, sorry, wish I could help, adios, sianara, avederswain, and goodbye.I gets a call today from the same guy begging me to help him. I start to give him the same send off and he is just about ready to cry when I give in.
I just got back from looking at the thing. Seems he had to long block from the last problem. Engine has 50 hours on it.
I asked him to crank it over to listen and after about 2 seconds I realized something in the lower end came apart. At which he said the company said it was a fuel problem. Pretty loud fuel problem I said. Never heard one that loud in 35 years of engine work.
He wants me to pull it out, tear it down and replace the long block again and reinstall.
I felt really bad for him because the last guy did a crappy job and he is just trying to make a livin fishin. So I said yes.
Who ever thought those GM truck engine diesels would make a good boat engine ought to be put in a dress, and placed in a cell with a 325 Lb. lifer who's been in solitary for the last 20 years.
They have caused more people to throw money in the crapper than just about anything I seen in the boat world.
