Phil,
Several guys pointed out that you don't necessarily have to replace the struts when you upsize the shafts. When I repowered, Patrick and Bruce increased my shafts from 1 3/8" to 1.5" and used the same struts. Some minor boring of the existing strut and the proper choice of a thinner walled strut bearing accomplished the desired change-over to 1.5" shafts. I did follow Patrick's recommendation by having him remove the existing strut backing plate (rotted and weakened) with a larger version. Good luck.
