Bruce,
I have a portable charger to do that from time to time. As far as the meter goes, I have a nice DC one sitting right next to me in my office, been on my "To Do List" for a few years.

The couple times I have checked and topped off with the Charger it was pretty much right on the money. I really don't use to much "stuff" when out, the autopilot gets the most use, stereo/amp from time to time if the mood stikes.

Again thanks for the help, I like knowing better then guessing.
