I run some trucks and the guy who does my mechanical is a real cummins expert. He is about to re power a B-25 with a single 6BTA and he feels 425 HP is no problem, costs about $1,500 to do the rebuild, $4,000 to buy the basic block used and the engine will last with this output in a marine pleasure application.
He has turned them up as high as 800 hp, but they don'tlast long at that kind of power and the incremental horsepower is very expensive to obtain. The fact that there are so many of these produced and that there is an active aftermarket parts supply due to the big numbers of trucks running this motor, ne can get alot of bang for your buck.
