UV- Thanks, I was trying to come up with a nice to say " Hey That Thing Gonna Break if you did what I thought you did ".

I have done some Flanged Bolt on Rudders for tugs and Lighters so it can be done correctly, but at some HD expence, plus the Flanges would be too much drag.

I have had people come in with some really strange requests and willing to pay to have them done. If its a saftey concern I just give my opinion and tell them why I won't do the work.

I had a guy buy a pair of shafts and then he wanted me to rebore his old coupling to fit. Wouldn't have been a problem but he was repowering with Diesel and the couplings where inadequate for his HP. When I told him I wouldn't do it and why he became irrate, left and had it done eleswhere. Didn't hear from him, till the coupling let loose on his way up to Glouchester and he needed a new one ASAP.

Had a guy come in with a used prop shaft that was too short, he wanted me to weld an extension onto it.

My favorite is a guy doing his thesis in physics. He came up with a design that would run pretty much indefinite. He based it what came down to a shaft that was supposed to run in opposing directions at one time, obviously this doesn't work but I couldn't get him to understand that.

After he kept telling me how much smarter he and his collegues where I decided to do the job, but I had to get paid first.

Got my money, he got the funky looking thing he wanted. Didn't work, but he just sat there for hours, taking it apart and putting it back together going over his notes and looking at it.

I ain't the brightest tool in the shed, but some people come up with some real dumb ideas.
