Yeah, do that as a cheap fix. For reference, I had a single cyl. Farryman genset on AJ when I became her Steward in about 1993, mounted like yours, outboard of the port engine. Had an electric feul pump between the tank and the 500 Racor. Damn thing was like having a lawnmower in the bilge, 3600 rpm, plus crapped out a lot, not from fuel isses, mostly overheated since it was raw water cooled.
Anyway, in May of 1995 pulled it out and put the 5.5 KW 3 cyl. Phasor (1800 rpm) in, and told the coonass installers to take the electic boost pump out of the line since I just knew my powerful 5.5 mechanical pump would do fine, eliminate one more pump. Wrong. Ran fine in calm seas, but if it got rough, the gen would starve out of fuel. Put the in line electric pump back in and all was well for 10 years. Set down now since day 2 of the UVI, but it's an injector pump issue, not a fuel delivery issue.
Get some good fuel pressure up to the injector pump.
