97 Tahoe advice needed

With the depth of knowledge here, figured this is the place to start. My 97 Tahoe (350 ci V8) started emmiting steam on the drive home today, some 2 miles. On re-filling the cooling system, turns out the heater hose output on the stb. head was snapped off. It is a compression type push on fitting from the metal extension of the hose to a fitting that goes into the top of the block. Just snapped off clean. Looked to me like it's threaded into the head, but with the proper easy-out and a half inch air impact could not budge the broken off piece in the head. Am I missing something? Is it threaded or some kind of goofy fitting that goes in there? I had the air on the 1/2 impact up to 120# and no go with the easy out. Looks like at $5 part, but if I can't get the broken off part out, it's a tow job.
