I haven't done a repower or upgrade yet that required removal of the rudder to get the props off.
Some have been close.The distance from the end of the shaft to the rudder is very close in some cases.
In up grading shaft size, you go on the notion that you are running a larger wheel that requires the larger shaft. This gives you less room for manuvering the prop off the shaft with the rudder on.
There are ways around this such as shortening the shaft, moving the strut fwd.
But in reality you don't want your props so close to the rudder so that they can't be removed.
The same goes for shafts. You shouldn't have to remove the rudder to remove the shafts. They should be offset enough for clearance.
