The other thing about detergent oil is that dirt particles remain suspended in the oil and are continously circulated. One uses it in diesel engine applications inorder to remove the carbon, this is why frequent oil changes are essential. The detergent oil would probably be okay, but one would have to change it frequently. The non detergent lets the crud fall to the bottom of the oil pan or gear housing
