On the thru hulls, bronze underwater. I understand 316 stainless can get brittle underwater due to oxygen starvation. Above the waterline I use 316 stainless. Some good buys on SS thru hulls on Ebay. I bought a 2 inch and 3/4 thru hull. Good quality for the price. Rawleigh
