genset, fuel lines&thru hull fittings

I was reading the instruction manual for the 3.5kW nextgen generator and it describes a few options for installation. What do you guys recommend for install? Here are the two basic options. Run completely separate fuel lines, separate pickup off the tank (is this even an option on a 1974 tank? I know it does have one fitting left in the pick up area) and run a separate racor filter and then splice into an engine return line. This seems to be the right way to do it. But, here is their second option...Run a Y off of the port engine fuel line, then run to separate racor filter then to the genset, for return Y into port engine. Or third, Y off of port engine but after the racor filter.
Any thoughts? I am leaning towards having everything completely separate, providing there is a third pick up in the fuel tank. Guess it wouldn't be the end of the world if I Y'd off the port fuel line.
Lastly, bilge pumps, ac lines and thru hull fittings. Any preference on bronze or SS? Seems that bilge pump will be 1 1/8" or maybe 1.5" and the ac line is pretty small. I want to make sure all thru hull holes are of the same material.
Thanks for the advice.
