Dealing with Hard Water

I am getting tired of dealing with hard water spots and am looking for softwater washdown system recommendations. The water in my area, San Diego CA, has enough minerals in it that it’s like “frosting” a Xmas tree every time I wash the boat down. I have seen larger yacht’s crews and cleaning services using softwater washdown systems (i.e. water softener) making the job much easier. Some of the units are very pricey … don’t know if they are any better than the less expensive ones…
Here are a few manufacturers and the capacities as well as online prices for some of their models.
Wet Spot – 2500 Gal/Regen $750, 3500 Gal/Regen $780 URL: www.softwetspot.com
Spot Free – 1000Gal/Regen. $350, 2500 Gal/Charge $500 URL: www.spotfreeh2o.com
Boji – 2000 Gal/Regen. $270, 5000 Gal/Regen $300 URL: www.bojifilters.com
Water-Mark Equipment – 1890 Gal/Charge $265.00 URL: www.water-mark.netI think they all measure the gallon/regeneration capacity at 4 grains hardness, but the more expensive units appear to have larger ion exchange resin cartridges for their capacity.
Any experience ? … Recommendations – brand or capacity ???
