My B38 MII, Blue Mage, fuel consumption with 8v53s is 10GPH at 10 Knots - with little variance from flat-calm to 10' seas. I travel at 10Knots when passage making (have many 1000s of miles under her keel at this speed). I burn ~20 GPH at 17 Knots.

One thing I have found with 2-cycle Detroits is that they need to be in proper tune to maintain this fuel economy. If the engines have been out of service for a while, may be worthwile to have a mechanic go over the engines (sounds like you are experienced with these engines as well).
