One of my favorites was "LA Freeway", but I always liked these lyrics,

"Well, the only kind of man that you ever wanted,

Was the kind that you knew you'd never hold very long, -

Just sittin' there crying, like I'm the first one to go."

I've seen him when he wasn't sober. One of my bosses at Shell had a son who played drums for him for awhile, way back when. I loved the story in a Playboy writeup about Willie's 4th of July picnic, where a bunch of bull riders beat the crap out of Jerry Jeff. As they were walking off, he raised himself on one bloody elbow and yelled, "You guys ain't so tough! I've had my ass kicked worse than that by motorcycle gangs!"
