I swapped out a pair of 4Ds and an 8D house battery for three PC 1700s as part of an upgrade that included addition of a genset into my Blackfin 29 Combi. (With the generator, I no longer needed the 8D for overnighting, and wanted to lose the weight).

A pair of Odyssey 1700s is roughly equal to a 4D in terms of 10-hour capacity, while a single 1700 offers more starting kick than the 4Ds ever could.

My boat is set up with house load on the pair, while the other motor has a dedicated 1700 with no house load at all. Setup has performed more than satisfactory, and I lost enough lead to offset the added weight coming from the genset. Even better, the motors (Cummins 6B/300s) have never cranked over faster and started better than they do now. I'm quite satisfied with the current setup.

BTW, one thing to watch, the manual indicates you can't torque on the posts, and they mean that. Posts break free very easily, although if you don't rotate them, there is no electrical damage done even if the post rotates a little.
