Most of the owners of Bertram 31's tend to be a bit protective, myself included. That is why most typically take care when having to walk over another when getting to the dock.
Docking at Champlins is one of those times when rafting will happen. I think I speak for many when I say that the rafting contributed to our getting to know each other even better! So far, Newport has been the only place where rafting was minimized, but not eliminated entirely!
If you don't want to stay the whole time there are many things we can do, because in fact we are in essence in charge. We did not really go where the Champlins staff put us, beyond the actual dock. If some people want to fish, and others don't we ought to put those people on one side of the dock or on one raft, so they all can go and come as they please so to speak. Also, if you know you will be leaving partway through the gathering, say so, and the group can figure out where it would be best to place you to enable your comings and goings.
Don't anyone let rafting curtail your participation, that would be my advice! If you do, that would be a shame, and we as rendezvous participants owe it to each other to figure out how to make reasonable accomdations for our fellow kool aid drinkers! Come on out and have a ball! We will take care of each other, that is for sure!!!
