I cheated and went with the "Shark Skin" a black and white grain which can be put installed in any direction. No lines or patterns to deal with and imperfections blend in. Also didn't show dirt as much.
I also opted for monel staples, the Nautelex and floor gave way, but the staples still looked great as I tossed the ole'deck into the trash heap.

As far as tips, I have two:

1st- Use their adhesive, ran short in one spot and tried something else. After it lifted a few times I bought the correct stuff and never had a problem again.

2nd- Most important, find a friend or anyone stupid enough to help you. Its an easy job, but a pain by yourself.
