Seems like you had your hands full. How did you know a spring was crapped out in the distributor? Did it still advance?

With all the work you did kind of hard to figure out what each component added to the mix. However sounds promising.

Know what you mean by the shock, I never got a shock from a HE Distibutor till a mechanic told me not to hold the top of one when timing the engine cause you'll get a shock, I told him I always grab it there. No sooner did I say that, I was zapped. Never happen before that time. And only once or twice since, that cause I forgot to grab from the side those times. I remember now.
