Still hoping it isn't the injector pump, I agree that you may have another filter somewhere that is plugging, or a leak? When I installed my genset, I ran a new line directly to the tank (and added the electric pump as you suggested). This worked better than coming off the engine fuel line, and makes it one step easier to troubleshoot. Also gives you early warning of low fuel, if the genset pickup is higher than the engine pickuops. My genset and engine do share the same return line, though. Could still be the genset mechanical fuel pump. On my mains, with the big electric boost pumps on, I can get flow out of the bleed screw on top of the secondary filters - past the mechanical lift pumps - when the engines are not running.
