The early year Bertrams have a thicker hull, more glass, than later ones.
The number crunchers caught up with production costs.

It makes no difference in the boat safety or performance though.

The two popular diesels are Cummins or Yanmar.
4 or 6 cylinders. Others are used with success also.

Go to the search function and check.

Your repower estimate is correct.
